Within the scope of the work carried out in cooperation with Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism for the Zeugma Archaeological Site to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, desk and field studies were carried out to determine the boundaries of the jurisdictions.
Work has begun for the Zeugma Archaeological Site, one of the 5 ancient cities of the Gazi city and added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2012, to be included in the UNESCO permanent list. Within the scope of the cooperation protocol between the Metropolitan Municipality KUDEB Department and the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, in the first meeting held to determine the boundaries of the area to be protected with the management plan, all institutions, organizations, public, local, civil and private parties that have the right to speak about the area were discussed. The road map was determined by taking the necessary ideas and opinions in the field. After the desk meeting held at the Metropolitan Municipality Bahriye Üçok Meeting Hall, we went to the protected area and carried out field studies.
Nizip District Governor Osman Uğurlu, Nizip Deputy Mayor Salih Uygur, Zeugma Excavation Head Prof. participated in the work hosted by Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality for the inclusion of the Zeugma Ancient City in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Dr. Kutalmış Görkay, ministry experts and representatives of relevant institutions and organizations attended.
