Observation Terrace Project Around Hıdırlık Tower Started

Antalya Metropolitan Municipality started the construction of the ‘Hıdırlık Tower Surroundings Archaeological Excavation and Observation Terrace Project’. Ancient ruins unearthed during archaeological excavations around the Hıdırlık Tower, one of the symbols of the city, will be presented to visitors with an observation terrace.

Ancient ruins and structures were found in the region during the archaeological excavations initiated by the Metropolitan Municipality in 2020, in line with the decision of the Preservation Board, in order to turn the Hıdırlık Tower, one of Antalya’s historical landmarks, into a cultural and tourist attraction center. Within the scope of the excavations meticulously carried out by expert archaeologists and teams around the Hıdırlık Tower, the foundation and wall ruins of the 96-year-old ice factory, which has an important place in the city’s memory, ancient bath ruins, floor mosaics and castle wall ruins were unearthed.

THE HISTORICAL TOWER WILL BECOME A CENTER OF ATTRACTION AGAIN

In order to present the unearthed ancient ruins and artifacts to visitors, the ‘Hıdırlık Tower Surroundings Archaeological Excavation and Observation Terrace Project’ was prepared and its construction started by Antalya Metropolitan Municipality. With the new observation terrace on the cliffs, Antalya residents, local and foreign visitors will be able to visit historical monuments accompanied by the Mediterranean view.

Within the scope of the project, the construction of which started by the Metropolitan Municipality Department of Technical Affairs, the first step is the improvement of the existing buildings and the conservation of the works. Teams are carrying out reinforced concrete and dry wall manufacturing work for steel construction flooring. With the observation terrace project, the underground parts of the ancient ruins and other building ruins in the area will be monitored through glass surfaces from the walking path level. Wooden walkways that allow visitors to watch the unique Mediterranean view are also included in the project.
