“Child-Friendly Applications” of the Ministry of Family and Social Services serve as a “virtual shield” to protect children from harmful content in all kinds of media, especially social media.

Acting with the principle of “Children’s well-being comes first”, the Ministry of Family and Social Services carries out studies to protect children against risks in the virtual environment as well as the risks they may face in real life.

In this context, “Child-Friendly Applications”, which were implemented in 2018, protect children against harmful content they may encounter in all kinds of media, especially social media.

This year, 1915 contents that were considered to have a negative impact on children were identified by the Social Media Working Group, which is a pillar of the practices.

As a result of the evaluations of these contents and cooperation between institutions, work was carried out to remove the content or block access to the content.

Since January 2020, 37 thousand 928 people have been given digital risk protection training, and 2018 thousand 146 people have been given privacy training since January 626.

38 books found to be harmful to minors

In the investigations carried out by the Board for the Protection of Minors from Harmful Publications since September 2018, it was decided that 38 books were harmful to minors.

In addition, in the same period, the Board prepared 20 thousand 118 judicial expert reports regarding the crime of obscenity and sent them to the judicial authorities.

2018 of the books examined since the beginning of 1503 were evaluated to have suitable content for the 0-18 age group. The name list of these books was published on the website of the General Directorate of Children’s Services.
