Automotive Production in Turkey Increased by 11 Percent in 12 Months
Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD), which is the umbrella organization of the sector with its 13 members guiding the Turkish automotive industry, announced production and export figures and market data for the January-November period of 2023. Accordingly, in the first 11 months of the year, total automotive production increased by 12 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 1 million 349 thousand 79 units.
Automobile production increased by 22 percent and reached 876 thousand 251 units. Including tractor production, total production reached 1 million 402 thousand 304 units. In the first eleven months of the year, commercial vehicle production decreased by 4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, and by 7 percent in the light commercial vehicle group. In the heavy commercial vehicle group, production increased by 20 percent.
During this period, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 74 percent. Capacity utilization rates on a vehicle group basis were 74 percent in light vehicles (cars + light commercial vehicles), 92 percent in the truck group, 53 percent in the bus-midibus group and 76 percent in the tractor.
Exports increased by 15 percent and reached 32,5 billion dollars
In the first eleven months of the year, automotive exports increased by 6 percent in terms of units compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 926 thousand 223 units. During this period, automobile exports increased by 18 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while commercial vehicle exports decreased by 12 percent. Tractor exports decreased by 2022 percent compared to the same period of 4, reaching 16 thousand 365 units.
According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly, total automotive industry exports maintained its top place in the sectoral export rankings with 2023 percent in the first eleven months of 13,7. According to Uludağ Automotive Industry Exporters’ Association (UIB) data, total automotive exports in the first 11 months increased by 2022 percent compared to the same period of 15, reaching 32,5 billion dollars.
In euro terms, it increased by 12 percent to 30,1 billion euros. In this period, exports of the main industry increased by 18 percent in dollar terms, and exports of the supply industry increased by 11 percent.
The market exceeded 1,1 million before the end of the year
In the first 2023 months of 11, the total market increased by 59 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 1 million 119 thousand 300 units. During this period, the automobile market increased by 66 percent and reached 840 thousand 925 units.
When we look at the commercial vehicle market, in the first eleven months of the year, there was a growth of 40 percent in the total commercial vehicle market, 22 percent in the heavy commercial vehicle market and 44 percent in the light commercial vehicle market, compared to the same period of the previous year. In the January-November period of 2023, the share of domestic vehicles in automobile sales was 32 percent, and the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 47 percent, compared to the same period last year.
